CITY OF WOES: THE TRAGEDY OF GORDON PLAZA

Approximately 73 million people in the United States live fewer than 3 miles away from a Superfund site (EPA). A Superfund site is a place which the Environmental Protection Agency has labeled as being so polluted that it is hazardous to human health. There are 1,303 Superfund sites in the United States—and as of 1990, nearly 1,200 New Orleans residents are living directly on top of one.
